the wind of faith

1
Faith is the opposite of control.
When we try to control the outcome of our lives
and all the external circumstances that swirl around us
we are not accessing the faith within
that reminds us: everything will work out.
Faith is not knowing the details
but understanding the details don’t matter.
Faith is the knowing
that the play of Spirit
vibrates at the frequency of our highest good.
So whatever unfolds
is in service to that highest good -
even when it seems “bad.”
Faith asks us to trust.
To trust in the overarching goodness of life.
To trust that life, like nature,
has systems and patterns
that restore balance,
bring healing,
and hold us
in the great weave of existence.
Faith is letting nature take its course.
Faith is releasing your grip.
(Letting go of that steering wheel.)
It asks us to detach
from our ideas
about how things should turn out.
To release specific visions and expectations.
It invites us to linger in mystery.
To not know what’s coming.
To not force outcomes.
Faith is counterculture.
Especially here, in the West,
where control is crowned as queen.
Faith asks a lot of us.
But once you get the hang of it -
faith becomes the ever-present wind in your sails.
You connect to that wind
by connecting with your breath.
Notice your faith
that another breath will arrive.
It always does.
Feel your breathing.
Feel how it feels to breathe in.
Feel how it feels to breathe out.
Notice your certainty
that an inhale will follow every exhale.
Feel the wind of your breath moving within you.
Let this captivate you.
Entrance you.
Let your attention rest here, uninterrupted,
as best you can.
The seeds of faith
are planted
with every breath you are aware of -
and every breath you trust will come.
Your breath is the doorway to your faith.
